"Female university students who received massage therapy reported improved body image after their sessions.
The researchers assumed this would be the case - but they also found positive body-image evaluations resulted in views that massage is pleasurable, according to an abstract published on www.pubmed.gov.
"Evidence suggests positive effects of massage on psychological health; however, little is know about the effects of massage on body image," the researchers noted. "Research is needed to determine the mechanism's through which massage improves body image.""
The research ran in the journal Body Image, published by Elsevier.
